The concept of NSS is originated in 1958, when the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru advised the academicians to introduce a program which involve student youth in social service. As a result, on the occasion of the Birth Centenary Year of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhiji, NSS was launched on 24th of September by the then Union Education Minister V. K. R. V. Rao.
Gramgeeta Mahavidyalaya, Chimur has an active NSS unit since its establishment with an aim to inculcate the sense of social responsibility in students and to provide selfless service to the society. With an intake capacity of 100 NSS volunteers (02 Unit), day by day the relation and connection between the institution and society becoming stronger. Under the guidance of the principal, Dr. Amir A. Dhamani, the devoted NSS Volunteers of our college has been doing various activities to help the society.
The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are as follows:
To understand the community in which a volunteer work
To understand themselves in relation to their community
To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
To utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
To gain skills in mobilising community participation
To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
To practise national integration and social harmony.
