The Semana Vidya Va Vanvikas Prashikshan Mandal, Gadchiroli established Gramgeeta Mahavidyalaya, Chimur since 13th July 2009 when there was not a single institution of science faculty available in the nearby region. The institute Gramgeeta Mahavidyalaya, Chimur is affiliated to Gondwana University, Gadchiroli. The institute is situated in the semi-urban and socio-economically backward region of the Chandrapur district in Maharashtra state. Most of the students of this institute come from nearby villages. Consequently they have socially, economically and academically backward background. So keeping in view its vision Honorable Mr. Vijay Namdevrao Wadettiwar (Maharashtra Cabinet Minister) founder president of Semana Vidya Va Vanvikas Prashikshan Mandal, Gadchiroli established this institute at Taluka place in order to bridge the gap between rural and urban sector and also to create awareness among the students to meet the need of overall development through education.
The institute introduced in 2009 with three UG courses is Art, Commerce and Science. The Science faculty is granted section in English medium and other two Arts and Commerce are non-granted section in Marathi medium. The main objective of the institution is to transform the students into well-meaning citizens through the committed pattern of instructions based on carefully prepared and well-designed curricular aspects. The changing needs of the time are the basis for the selection of the programmes and imparting the courseware.
The vision and mission of the institution is a reflection of the objectives of the National policies on higher education, in molding human resources to meet contemporary challenges. The institution provides comprehensive education instilled with scientific zeal, creating a platform for life-long learning. The institution follows a three-fold system with academic, co-curricular and extra–curricular programmes. The NSS and Cultural department of the institute plays important role in the social awareness programs like Voter Awareness Rally, Swacha Bharat Program etc. The academic design is based on enhancing and empowering the knowledge base of the students. The focus is on the recent trends in scientific and cognitive fields. To inculcate the moral and patriotic values among the students, the institution exercises the practice of national anthem followed by daily prayer ‘Rashtravandana’ which is written by Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj devoted to the nation.
